ugh
Last night was a rather sleepless night for me, again.
My mom is still in the hospital with lower right quadrant abdominal pain and the GI doctor that originally stated he wanted to do a Prometheus IBD test on her (to determine if she has Crohn’s Disease) has still not preformed the test. Instead, he ordered blood work late afternoon yesterday to test for cancer. This was following a CT with and without contrast on Wednesday of this past week (the day after she was admitted). However, according to the charge nurse on shift Wednesday evening, the only thing detected in the CT scan was colitis. Which in returned sprarked the need/recommendation for the Prometheus IBD test (to determine if it is Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis).
But, since the physician’s following her in the hospital have yet to actually tell us what is going on, why her abdominal is so bloated and swollen and full of fluid, one can’t help but wonder what is truly going on…
My mom’s family is full of cancer. Her father died at an early again (in his 40’s) from Colon Cancer and various of types of cancer, her aunts and uncles passed from cancer, her Mother passed away due to cancer that was initially detected in her brain but later was found throughout her body and was inoperable and even after chemotherapy she was beyond ‘saving’. Then, 3-4 years ago, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. It was detected early on and she was able to receive radiation through Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida and has been in remission for approximately 2 years. Unfortunately, I fear that something cancerous is causing her pain, swelling, and discomfort. I think something is going on with her liver and to my knowledge no one has even looked at the liver yet because they’ve all been searching and looking at other areas of her abdominal area instead.
So, today we will hopefully find out what the cancer blood tests show: cancer or no cancer.
